In the first half of the twentieth century Sutton Park attracted huge numbers of visitors. This book describes what they did there, such as taking boats out on the pools, swimming, ice skating, angling and sketching; how the town council sought to make the park even more popular by opening such leisure amenities as tennis courts and a bowling green; and how an influential lobby, which sought to preserve the park as it was, resisted these 'improvements'.
